Exploration

This term our topic has been Exploration. We did a variety of different experiments to learn about the Fair Testing Process.

With a buddy, each person in room 6 conducted their own Fair Test. We celebrated this week by holding a Science Fair.

Check out Sam and Kurtis' Fair Test below. The variable they changed was the amount of vinegar they added to the egg. The vinegar dissolved the egg shell and left the membrane. This made the egg bounce. They then measured how many times the egg bounced for each of the eggs.

The students in Room 6 had a great time and learnt lots about investigating and working like scientists.

Mary had a little lamb with a sinister twist!

Room 6 have been writing Fairy Tales and Nursery rhymes with a twist. We read some short stories from Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes as motivation.

Here is Jaimie's nursery rhyme.

Based on Mary had a little lamb  (13 rhymes)

There once was a girl named Mary
Who partied at the dairy,

She had a lamb whose name was mutton
Who wore a jacket with 10 buttons,

One day mary said “That is it”,
“That repulsive lamb is far from fit!”

“he ‘s fat as butter and stuped too,
Why he is going to make one fine stew”

That broke lambs heart I have to say,
Why I’m not going to be a roast today!

He followed mary that day to school,
But he was just a plain old fool,

Mary turned around and slowly said,
“I knew you’d come off with your head!”

Then muttons head rolled on the floor
And all the kids cried out “score!”

They poked and pricked until mutton said
“What are you doing? '' I'm not dead!

all  the kids then ran and screamed
And mutton said “mary” and then he beamed

“I’m going to eat you!” she replied
And that just made the lamb laugh and sigh

“No I’m going to eat you” he cried
And on that day, Mary died.

So what your never going to do,
Is try to turn your lamb into a stew

Dumbo

This week, Angie completed these wonderful Google drawings for some of the characters in our class novel, Dumbo.

Angie showed our C.E.R.R. Value of Excellence this week by engaging with, and completing this task. She also put a huge amount of effort into the drawing of these characters and telling us, the reader, more about them.

Social Justice

This term room 6 have bee learning about Social Justice. We have explore different 'causes and effects' of poverty.
Nika wrote this wonderful piece of
writing that explains some of those causes and how this affects different countries and people.

Causes and Effects of Poverty.

What is poverty and what causes it? Poverty is a lack of essential resources. It can be caused by things
like population, Economics, Politics,
and Climate. These countries that suffer from poverty are called LEDCs (lower economically developed countries).

Population.
Sometimes largely populated countries are difficult to live in. This is because of the need
for more daily necessities.
The effect of this is that families don't have enough food or water to feed everyone. This would be especially
hard if you have a big family.
Overall rising populated countries are tough to live in and need more money

Economics.
The people in LEDCs do not have a good wage. Although they work very hard,
they do not get enough.
The lack of money has not benefited companies in LEDCs, this is because they are needing to sell things to
other companies in MEDCs.
This problem has also erupted because the government does not have enough money.

Politics.
Countries that are run by dictators create a bad environment. The cause is that
people don't get a say.
They do not get the freedom of choice. Because they have no choice this causes them to have no job
which leads them to become poor.
The leaders also let people raid other crops.

Climate.
Crops are a big food factor in some countries.  Many places are in a major drought right now, leaving
people thirsty and walking miles to g et water.
Then in other countries, it is the complete opposite places are flooding. There are also places that are
suffering from natural disasters.
Sometimes climate can be the cause of poverty and starvation.

To wrap it all up, these four components (population, Economics, Politics, and Climate) can cause
poverty in very different ways.
In my opinion, I think it would be very hard to live in a country with poverty.

Creative Crosswords

This week the reading group Mars have been reading a book called 'Indian in the Cupboard'. Their task was to explore some of the vocabulary in the text and show their understanding of these words by creating a crossword. Mikaela used an online tool to help generate her crossword.

Algebra

This term 'Pluto' (maths group) have been learning to solve algebraic equations. They have learnt about using inverse operations and the order of operations to help them solve some quite complex problems. Here is a slideshow Nika made to explain her learning.

Skellig By David Almond

This term room 6 have been reading Skellig by David Almond. We have been completing weekly activities based on recall and comprehension. One activity we had to complete was a visual representation of the garage in the story. The garage is a place where Michael (main character) meets a mysterious man living in the garage of the house his family had just bought. We haven't finished the story yet, so look out for our next update.

Here are two google drawings from room 6 students that show how we visualise the text.

Favourite Spots to work and relax at School

Nevaeh loves to calm down and chill in our schools prayer garden. Nobody runs through it. It is a no screaming zone. It is a very calm place and that is why Nevaeh likes it.

Room 6 - Introduction

Hi, here is a slideshow about all the students in Room 6 this year. We hope you enjoy learning a little bit about each of us.
